Work­ers at T&T Na­tion­al Pe­tro­le­um Mar­ket­ing Com­pa­ny Ltd's (NP) Sea Lots plant es­caped se­ri­ous in­jury, and even death, when a boil­er ex­plod­ed ear­ly yes­ter­day.The in­ci­dent took place at 8 am at the Lu­bri­cants Plant (LOBP) at the NP plant on 1 Na­tion­al Dri­ve, Sea Lots, Port-of-Spain.A re­lease from NP's com­mu­ni­ca­tion's unit said the prob­lem oc­curred with the in­ter­nal ig­ni­tion on one of the boil­ers which caused its ex­haust stack cov­er to be blown off.

The re­lease al­so con­firmed that none of its work­ers were in­jured in the blast and the boil­er was im­me­di­ate­ly shut down and iso­lat­ed.Ac­cord­ing to of­fi­cials at NP, a full in­ves­ti­ga­tion has been or­dered in­to the in­ci­dent.NP al­so as­sured the pub­lic that "key fu­el op­er­a­tions" re­mained in­tact and that ac­tiv­i­ty at the lu­bri­cants fa­cil­i­ty was ex­pect­ed to re­turn to nor­mal by to­day.In a tele­phone in­ter­view yes­ter­day, Chief Fire Of­fi­cer Carl Williams said the in­ci­dent was not re­port­ed to the Fire Ser­vices.
