Couple fined $6,500 for marijuana
Gasparillo couple Colin Stuart and Marie Farrow were ordered to pay $6,500 in fines after pleading guilty to marijuana possession yesterday. Stuart, 28 and Farrow, 23, both of Whiteland, appeared before San Fernando Second Court magistrate Roger Ramgoolam for the February 4, 2011 offence. The couple, represented by attorney Sharmilla Rampaul, pleaded guilty to having 19 grammes of marijuana in their possession. Court prosecutor Sgt Rudy Ali told the court Stuart and Farrow were arrested after Cpl Keith Ifill executed a search warrant at the couple's Puna Road, Whiteland, house around 5.30 am. The officer found the quantity of marijuana hidden in the house.
$150,000 bail for man on ganja charge
A Gasparillo electrician, allegedly arrested with 1.2 kilo grammes of marijuana, was granted $150,000 bail yesterday when he appeared in court charged with drug trafficking. Sterling Mc Eachrane, 31, of Charles Street, appeared before San Fernando Second Court Magistrate Roger Ramgoolam charged with the February 4 offence. Mc Eachrane is charged with having 1.2 kilogrammes of marijuana in his possession. Police Prosecutor Sgt Rudy Ali recommended summary trial for the charge to which Mc Eachrane pleaded not guilty. He was remanded reappear in court on February 14.
Three accused of stealing fishes
Three labourers, accused of stealing $50,000 worth of exotic fishes, including sharks and kois, appeared before a San Fernando magistrate yesterday charged with larceny. Ashok Lalman, 23, of Guayaguayare, Roshan Rajkumar, 22, of Bobb Street, La Romain, and Jason Mohammed, 29, of Lucky Street, La Romain, stood before San Fernando Fourth Court Magistrate Alicia Chankar.
The three were arrested by WPC Rajkumar and charged with stealing the fishes, between September 8 and 11, 2010, from Nigel and Grace Davis, of Soogrim Street, Gulf View. The men were placed on $75,000 bail each. They will reappear in court on February 14. Police claimed the men stole the fishes over a period of time from the couple's home at Gulf View.
