Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Min­is­ter Chan­dresh Shar­ma agreed with Warn­er, say­ing Lee Sing did not have the au­thor­i­ty to charge mo­torists a fee ex­ceed­ing $500 to re­trieve their im­pound­ed ve­hi­cles.Shar­ma said Sec­tion 108 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle and Road Traf­fic Act al­lowed the po­lice to re­move a ve­hi­cle parked in breach of the traf­fic laws where the own­er could not be found or re­fused to move it.The law stat­ed that a con­sta­ble may take the ve­hi­cle to a place of safe cus­tody, usu­al­ly by tow­ing it. In or­der to have the ve­hi­cle re­leased, the own­er must pay $300 in re­moval charges and $200 for cus­tody of the ve­hi­cle and if the fee is not paid with­in 30 days, the ve­hi­cle may then be sold by pub­lic auc­tion, he added.Shar­ma and Warn­er said they would take ac­tion to en­sure the pub­lic was not ex­ploit­ed.
