The murder toll climbed to 56 yesterday after a 54-year-old health and safety officer was shot in Laventille while on his way to work. Brian Aubin was shot six times by a gunman. Homicide officers remained baffled over the incident which sparked anger by some residents who called for the removal of Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs. "We want a local commissioner like Randolph Burroughs and his Flying Squad who used to come in the area," residents said.
"The new commissioner is in office six months now and we never see him in Laventille. "Laventille is a hot spot and I never see him up here once. He (Aubin) was an older man, this is a shocking thing." Aubin's brother, Donovan, said the victim had no dispute with anyone in the area and expressed surprise over the fatal shooting. He said: "Our family is not involved in any criminal activity. I don't know what happen if it was a stray bullet or what happen. I am in shock...we don't owe anybody, or in a war with anybody." Homicide officers are continuing investigations.
