In adding his con­tri­bu­tion to the ses­sion, chair­man of the EOC pro­fes­sor John La Guerre said that it was by no means an easy task to bring about equal­i­ty in the few years of in­de­pen­dence we had in T&T.He re­flect­ed on the his­to­ry of dis­crim­i­na­tion with which the Caribbean has had to en­dure at the hands of its many colo­nial­ists and not­ed that while ob­sta­cles to equal op­por­tu­ni­ty ex­ist, there were in­sti­tu­tions, like the EOC, which con­tin­ued to show great promise in its pro­mo­tion.La Guerre con­clud­ed his dis­course and by ex­ten­sion, the morn­ing's pro­ceed­ings with these words: "With­out equal­i­ty of op­por­tu­ni­ty, we can­not be sure that the re­sources of a par­tic­u­lar so­ci­ety, gen­er­at­ed both by those who hold cap­i­tal and those who are re­spon­si­ble for em­ploy­ing peo­ple, will find their most pro­duc­tive us­es."
