Former journalist and political activist Dhannasar Rampersad died at the San Fernando General Hospital on Wednesday, after a short illness. Dan, as he was commonly known, will be cremated today at the Mosquito Creek, La Romaine, following a 10 am service at his home at Pecan Avenue, Union Hall, Cross Crossing. During his 40-year career in the media, Dan, 70, worked at 610 Radio, the Trinidad Express and the Bomb/Blast newspapers.
In addition to his career in the media, Dan was a political activist who served as chairman of the Siparia Regional Corporation and on the Board of the PTSC. A former teacher at the Barrackpore Vedic School, Dan was a founding member of the Barrackpore Improvement Committee and the Apollo Sports Club. He leaves to mourn his wife of 43 years, Praboodai, three children, including Anil, a photographer at the Newsday, and nine grandchildren.
