Successful agents of Tatil Life Assurance Limited received over $150,000 in prizes during its annual sales awards held at Jaffa, Queens Park Oval, Port-of-Spain. The ceremony, chaired by David Stephens under the theme Celebrating the Essence of Success, honoured close to 40 recipients in 12 categories by way of trophies, plaques and individual cheques ranging from $2,000 to $25,000. Among the recipients of the most prestigious awards at the service were the Top Producer of the Year, Mary-Lou Chung, Branch of the Year, Jeevan Mohess and Rookie of the Year Ria Noyan.
Delivering the feature address former Port-of-Spain mayor and serving insurance executive Ethelbert "Telly" Paul, said in measuring the success of men, that mediocrity and failure were not a consequence of one's lack of ability. "I have thought long and hard about this phenomenon and have concluded that some men succeed because they cheerfully pay the price of success, whilst others, though they claim ambition and a desire to succeed, are unwilling to pay that price," Paul said. He added that such a "price" required courage, sound planning and an ability to sustain a sense of determination amidst the many adversities and unfavourable circumstances which may arise.
Paul alluded also to the volatile global economy and said that while the financial industry needed to adapt to these changes, agents needed to be more professional in the way they approached clients in order to restore confidence and viability within the system. Chung, also the recipient of awards in three other highly esteemed categories (Chairman's Circle, Executive Club and Persistency), echoed Paul's sentiments in her view on success: "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
