"I am ready for them...ah going international!"That was the declaration made by the real "mash up gyal" Denise "Saucy Wow" Belfon. When the T&T Guardian made contact with the songstress, she sounded extremely elated as she expressed her feelings about competing for the 2011 Groovy Soca Monarch title."I am excited! All I can say is that I've worked hard and long enough for a moment like this to arrive-I am more than ready for the rivalry on Fantastic Friday," she declared.
Boasting that she is the longest-standing soca artiste to have made the finals every year since 1994, Belfon added: "I have made the finals more than the top names in the business. In all I have made 13 finals to date."Although the former beauty queen, for the first time, will not compete in the Power Soca category, she said performance is her main focus and she is confident she has what it takes to win the title."It doesn't really matter to me because the only difference is that for Groovy you get six minutes on stage and Power you get eight.
"I am accustomed being in the Power Soca category. But for me, once you make it into either of the finals, you just have to come out with all your "guns blazing," and I'm a 'shooter', so yuh know," laughed Belfon.
Going international
Brimming with confidence, Belfon declared that after her performance on Fantastic Friday, she will be going international."This is an opportunity of a lifetime. If I live to make it to that night, I am going to be the talk of the town," Belfon predicted."When international people see me, they will be calling me to take me international." Belfon also stated that while she does not underestimate the talent of her competitors, she is confident of her song and is just focused on giving it her all.
