Prime Minister Kamla Persad–Bissessar held a meeting with permanent secretaries at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) last week Wednesday to discuss their reassignment.Persad–Bissessar gave her assurance that any action to reassign permanent secretaries would only be done after holding consultation and sound assessment based on the need to achieve the best fit of skills, training, competencies and personalities.
A statement issued by the OPM said the Prime Minister recognised the efforts of those permanent secretaries who contributed significantly to successive governments and to the people of T&T."In particular, the Prime Minister gave the assurance that she will continue to foster and develop good working relationships among her ministers and permanent secretaries in order to implement and manage the policies which would move forward the process of reform and ensure the continue d growth, sustainability and success of the nation," the statement said.It added that while it was a Prime Minister's prerogative to request shifts of permanent secretaries to areas in which their expertise and resources were deemed to be best suited, it was noted that the strategy was under consideration.
