After four months on the job, the Attorney General's special adviser Clevon Raphael-whom AG Anand Ramlogan once described as his "right hand man"-has resigned.Raphael, a former journalist, confirmed yesterday that he resigned on Thursday. He was present in the Parliament chamber yesterday, handling his final duties, while Ramlogan piloted death penalty legislation. In the face of speculation about his decision, Raphael declined to say why he had quit. His only comment on the move was: "It was a novel experience working with the ministry."
Asked about his his next move, Raphael said he "doubted very much" that he would return to the media. He said, however, that he had still received several media offers.Contacted yesterday, Ramlogan said it was an amicable parting. "He (Clevon) left on good terms and we remain very good friends," he added.Raphael joined the Attorney General's Ministry last October. Before that time, he had been news director at Power 102.
When he had joined the AG's division, Raphael said he would have been "advising Ramlogan on a wide range of matters" and would also handle "some aspect of media matters."At the time, Raphael had said he had seen his role as a "major challenge" but as a contribution to national development in a different way to journalism. When Ramlogan introduced Raphael at a September function, Ramlogan had said: "...He will be, in effect, my right hand man." GA
