An ex-convict, released from prison two weeks ago, was sentenced to 72 months in jail yesterday for commiting two offences at the same business places he had committed his previous crimes. After hearing that Ricky Harryman had seven previous convictions, San Fernando magistrate Alicia Chankar asked: "What is it? You like jail." Replying "No, Ma'am," he said he came out of jail on February 4.
"Exactly!" said the magistrate.Harryman pleaded guilty to stealing copper lines at Southern Medical Centre and being found on the Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) compound with house-breaking implements .Court prosecutor Sgt Russell Ramoutar said Harryman committed offences on those same compounds last year and was jailed. In presenting the facts, Ramoutar said around 5 am on Monday, an employee at the medical centre observed four air- conditioning copper lines leading to the patients waiting room missing. They were valued at $1,400.
When PC David Simon arrested and cautioned Harryman on Wednesday at the San Fernando Police Station, he said: "Officer, I really take the cooper by Southern Medical Centre and I give it to a man name Kiskedee. But I eh know where he living and he give me ah small change-$75-and I spend the money."In the other incident, Ramoutar said on Wednesday around 12.45 am, PC Mohammed was on patrol along St James Street when he received a report that a man was on TSTT compound. On checking, he saw the accused who had a hacksaw with a blade and knife in his hand. The magistrate sentenced him 36 months on each charge, but ordered the charges to run currently. This means he will only serve 36 months.
