Dookeran: Point highway to open opportunities
Minister of Finance and political leader of the Congress of the People(COP) Winston Dookeran predicts that the $7.2 billion Point Fortin Highway will bring new opportunities to the people of the area. Dookeran was addressing members of Mt Beulah Evangelical Baptist Church, Warden Road, Point Fortin, yesterday, in honour of Pastor Roddie Taylor for his contribution to the community. Pastor Taylor received a commendation from Dookeran as part of the COP's Patriotic Series.
Dookeran said that the Point Fortin highway was long in coming and that the PP Coalition Government was determined to see it come to fruition. “The highway will enhance the area's social and economic opportunities,” he said. The finance minister praised pastor Taylor, who was ordained in 1986, for his “commitment to duty, for your sacrifice, for your love and for your dedication to build a strong community, a strong society and by so doing to help build a strong national society.
“I know it was a great struggle, but you have persevered and your commitment has borne fruits now, and will continue to do so in the future,” citing similar initiatives of the late Martin Luther King of the USA, who had a dream for his people. Dookeran said, “The people of Point Fortin are rich in spirit and have a powerful history because of the works of people like Pastor Taylor. I am very happy to be associated with Pastor Taylor and I feel a part of the history of the people of Point Fortin,” he concluded. Pastor Taylor was a COP candidate in the last local government election.
