Low­er House ex­am­i­na­tion of the death penal­ty leg­is­la­tion cli­max­es next Mon­day at 1.30 pm fol­low­ing Wednes­day's House de­bate on the is­sue. Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar is in Grena­da to­day and to­mor­row, at­tend­ing the Cari­com In­ter-ses­sion­al meet­ing. She re­turns this week­end and will be present for Mon­day's con­tin­u­a­tion of the death penal­ty mat­ter, Gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials said.

At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Anand Ram­lo­gan wound up de­bate on the bill around 11.30 pm on Wednes­day. It is ex­pect­ed to be tak­en to com­mit­tee stage at Mon­day's House sit­ting. How­ev­er, the House al­so will meet to­day for pri­vate mem­bers' day when de­bate con­tin­ues on an Op­po­si­tion mo­tion con­cern­ing Gov­ern­ment's han­dling of files from the Se­cu­ri­ty In­tel­li­gence Agency (SIA). Af­ter next Mon­day's House sit­ting and next Tues­day's Sen­ate ses­sion, Par­lia­ment is ex­pect­ed to take a break un­til af­ter Car­ni­val, Gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials said.
