Lower House examination of the death penalty legislation climaxes next Monday at 1.30 pm following Wednesday's House debate on the issue. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is in Grenada today and tomorrow, attending the Caricom Inter-sessional meeting. She returns this weekend and will be present for Monday's continuation of the death penalty matter, Government officials said.
Attorney General Anand Ramlogan wound up debate on the bill around 11.30 pm on Wednesday. It is expected to be taken to committee stage at Monday's House sitting. However, the House also will meet today for private members' day when debate continues on an Opposition motion concerning Government's handling of files from the Security Intelligence Agency (SIA). After next Monday's House sitting and next Tuesday's Senate session, Parliament is expected to take a break until after Carnival, Government officials said.
