New chairman of Caribbean New Media Group Ltd (CNMG) Brian Stone says he intends to have a "firm grip" on the state-owned media company."We intend to fast track the board getting a firm grip on CNMG," Stone said.He was speaking at an introductory meeting with members of the CNMG board after the nine members received their instruments of appointment from Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Colin Partap yesterday.
Board members include COP's Kevan Gibbs, a design consultant with the Trinidad Guardian. Gibbs unsuccessfully contested the Auzonville/Tunapuna seat in local government elections.Stone had been the head of the Association of Independent Media (AIM) workers formed last year after People's Partnership members such as Devant Maharaj complained that the Media Association of T&T was allegedly "pro-PNM".
Stone resigned as AIM head last year to take up the CNMG board position.Deputy chairman Liana Ramsahai is a lawyer while other members are involved in human resources, information technology and engaged in the field of political analysis.The board members are appointed for two years.Partap charged members with the responsibility of providing broadcast, production and transmission services for audiences within T&T and the wider Caribbean.
