New chair­man of Caribbean New Me­dia Group Ltd (CN­MG) Bri­an Stone says he in­tends to have a "firm grip" on the state-owned me­dia com­pa­ny."We in­tend to fast track the board get­ting a firm grip on CN­MG," Stone said.He was speak­ing at an in­tro­duc­to­ry meet­ing with mem­bers of the CN­MG board af­ter the nine mem­bers re­ceived their in­stru­ments of ap­point­ment from Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter Col­in Par­tap yes­ter­day.

Board mem­bers in­clude COP's Ke­van Gibbs, a de­sign con­sul­tant with the Trinidad Guardian. Gibbs un­suc­cess­ful­ly con­test­ed the Au­zonville/Tu­na­puna seat in lo­cal gov­ern­ment elec­tions.Stone had been the head of the As­so­ci­a­tion of In­de­pen­dent Me­dia (AIM) work­ers formed last year af­ter Peo­ple's Part­ner­ship mem­bers such as De­vant Ma­haraj com­plained that the Me­dia As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T was al­leged­ly "pro-PNM".

Stone re­signed as AIM head last year to take up the CN­MG board po­si­tion.Deputy chair­man Liana Ram­sa­hai is a lawyer while oth­er mem­bers are in­volved in hu­man re­sources, in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­o­gy and en­gaged in the field of po­lit­i­cal analy­sis.The board mem­bers are ap­point­ed for two years.Par­tap charged mem­bers with the re­spon­si­bil­i­ty of pro­vid­ing broad­cast, pro­duc­tion and trans­mis­sion ser­vices for au­di­ences with­in T&T and the wider Caribbean.
