Senior officers have launched an investigation into a brawl which broke out at the Debe Police Station early yesterday. Investigators said the fight occurred around 4 am and involved three police officers. The assailant, said to be on injury leave, reportedly walked into the Debe Police Post around 4 am and asked to use the washroom. At the time, two constables were in the station. One of the officers, identified as PC Bachoo was reportedly asleep in the dormitory when the off-duty officer walked in.
Sources say the assailant grabbed Bachoo and threw him off the bed. He allegedly started kicking and slapping Bachoo. The assailant dragged Bachoo to the charge room area where PC Cholai attempted to intervene. The assailant then walked out of the station, jumped into his car and sped off. Detectives said Bachoo was taken for medical treatment. He sustained soft tissue injuries and was sent on medical leave.
A source at the station alleged that the intoxicated off-duty policeman was angry because he accused certain policemen of intruding "his turf." But another source denied this was true. He claimed that the off-duty officer came to the station around 8 pm the night before the fight holding two opened Ginseng drinks, which he claimed he got at a nearby club. However, none of the officers took the drinks because they were open. It is alleged that the officer returned intoxicated hours later, and took out his frustration on the on-duty cops. Senior officers yesterday launched an enquiry into the incident.
