Ten calypsonians will vie for a first prize of $10,000 in the Point Fortin Regional Carnival Competition this evening at the Victor Chin Kit Park. Reigning champion, Tamika Darius, a finalist in Sunday's National Calypso Monarch Competition, will face off with nine other contestants, including Sekon Alves, Melissa Williams and Joel Davis. The show, titled Mardi Gras, also will see a King and Queen of the Bands competing for a cash prize of $3,000 each.
Among the participating bands are Dr Vincent Lasse and Associates, led by the former Point Fortin MP Vincent Lasse, Jeff Harris and Associates, the Eastman Brothers and others. There also will be live performances from the band Rhythm and Moods, led by Joey Rivers. Delegates from the upcoming Miss Point Fortin Borough Queen Pageant are expected to make guest appearances.
