President general of the National Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW) James Lambert is calling on the Ministry of Local Government to increase the number of permanent daily- rated workers within the 14 corporations. Lambert said the last cadre was signed in 2008 and should be signed biennially. He was speaking at the signing ceremony of the permanent cadre of daily-rated workers between the NUGFW and the ministry.
A vociferous Lambert said the ministry had to be more vigilant and lambasted the chief executive officers of the regional corporations. "I want to say categorically this morning that the Ministry of Local Government is only the agent of the employees for daily-rated workers via the corporations," he said. "The Chief Personnel Officer continues to be on the act as the employer, but the ministry has a role to play and I am happy that the minister and the acting permanent secretary are here...that they ought to be more vigilant as it relates to persons that have been appointed to govern the various corporations administratively."
