Pres­i­dent gen­er­al of the Na­tion­al Union of Gov­ern­ment and Fed­er­at­ed Work­ers (NUGFW) James Lam­bert is call­ing on the Min­istry of Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment to in­crease the num­ber of per­ma­nent dai­ly- rat­ed work­ers with­in the 14 cor­po­ra­tions. Lam­bert said the last cadre was signed in 2008 and should be signed bi­en­ni­al­ly. He was speak­ing at the sign­ing cer­e­mo­ny of the per­ma­nent cadre of dai­ly-rat­ed work­ers be­tween the NUGFW and the min­istry.

A vo­cif­er­ous Lam­bert said the min­istry had to be more vig­i­lant and lam­bast­ed the chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cers of the re­gion­al cor­po­ra­tions. "I want to say cat­e­gor­i­cal­ly this morn­ing that the Min­istry of Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment is on­ly the agent of the em­ploy­ees for dai­ly-rat­ed work­ers via the cor­po­ra­tions," he said. "The Chief Per­son­nel Of­fi­cer con­tin­ues to be on the act as the em­ploy­er, but the min­istry has a role to play and I am hap­py that the min­is­ter and the act­ing per­ma­nent sec­re­tary are here...that they ought to be more vig­i­lant as it re­lates to per­sons that have been ap­point­ed to gov­ern the var­i­ous cor­po­ra­tions ad­min­is­tra­tive­ly."
