A pregnant woman was shot by a man who attempted to rob her on Wednesday night. Karen Abdool, 29, a lecturer at the UTT’s Couva Campus, was returning to her home at Lvystonia Drive, Roystonia, at around 8.30 pm when she was accosted by a gunman standing in her yard. Abdool locked the doors of her Hyundai Tucson and the man fired two shots at her.

She was struck in her upper left side. Abdool was taken by her husband to the Couva District Hospital, then carried by ambulance to the San Fernando General Hospital where she was warded in stable condition.
Sgt Rasool Balkaran is investigating. Police said they believed robbery was the motive. Neighbours said they were concerned that Roystonia was becoming a crime-riddled community.
