She said the Tunapuna/Piarco Region will continue to enforce the Anti-Litter Act and Public Health Ordinance, however she called on citizens to maintain the vacant lots and dilapidated buildings. The Corporation has a Unit of Litter Prevention Wardens who are instructed to find errant land owners to clear vacant lots or face the Courts. Officers from the Tunapuna Police Station have been trying to ensure people do not misuse these properties. Speaking to the Sunday Guardian, one officer said that once there was a structure on the property people will occupy it to use illegal substances. Also, he confirmed that rapes do take place, on those properties, however, these were not reported often this year. "Remember not everybody who gets rape will report it. If we could, we would have broken down the structures but we cannot do that,"he said.
