A La Romaine man has been ordered to do 200 hours of community service for resisting arrest, obscene language and possession of a stone with intent to wound.Jeffrey Jagoonath was also placed on a $1,500 bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for three years. "You must not play with stones," San Fernando Fourth Court Magistrate Alicia Chankar advised after sentencing him.Jagoonath had pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a stone with intent to wound, resisting arrest and obscene language. He was charged by PC Avinash Narine.
Court prosecutor Sgt Russell Ramoutar said around 11 pm on Monday Narine and other officers were on mobile patrol duty along Temple Street. The accused, who was walking along the road, looked in the officer's direction and began walking quickly.The officers approached him and he picked up a stone and threatened to "buss" the officers head while using obscene language. He struggled with the officers when they attempted to arrest him.Asked by the magistrate whether he was drinking, he said he drank three beers.
