Cabinet is today expected to examine a recommendation for the Caribbean Airlines board to be changed, it was confirmed yesterday.The CAL board has been in suspension recently, after simmering issues among board members.Board members have informed the line minister, Jack Warner, of the situation and given reports to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar also.Warner said recently that he had put the matter in the hands of the Prime Minister who returned from London on Monday.
Board sources said at least five members of the board were "totally opposed" to the board's chairman and "there can be no healing in the situation."CAL sources said the situation needed to be dealt with urgently since it was affecting the airline's operations.They said issues being delayed as a result of the impasse included the full consummation of the CAL/Air Jamaica arrangement.This is the second time issues are plaguing the CAL board which was stymied by problems between board chairman George Nicholas and Warner soon after inception.That impasse, concerning the acquisition of ATR aircraft, was eventually settled.
