The South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) has posted advertisements in the daily newspapers for qualified people to fill five top positions, including Medical Director, at San Fernando General Hospital. The other positions advertised include specialist Medical Officer (in all medical subspecialties), Manager (Hospital Administration); Assistant Manager (Hospital Administration); Manager (Human Resources.)
The post of Chief Executive Officer was not among the positions advertised.
The deadline for applications is April 6. On March 17, former CEO Paula Chester-Cumberbatch was fired for not carrying out the SWRHA's directive to issue letters of suspension to five doctors and nurses who were on duty when mother of three, Chrystal Boodoo-Ramsumair, died at the hospital on March 4.
Acting Medical Director Dr Anand Chatoorgoon, who disagreed with the action of the board and Minister of Health Therese Baptiste-Cornelis, has been told that his contract which comes to an end on March 31 will not be extended. Asked if he will be applying for the position of Medical Director, Chatoorgoon gave an emphatic "no." Other senior doctors, who spoke on the basis of anonymity, said they did not want the job.
