The South West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (SWRHA) has post­ed ad­ver­tise­ments in the dai­ly news­pa­pers for qual­i­fied peo­ple to fill five top po­si­tions, in­clud­ing Med­ical Di­rec­tor, at San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. The oth­er po­si­tions ad­ver­tised in­clude spe­cial­ist Med­ical Of­fi­cer (in all med­ical sub­spe­cial­ties), Man­ag­er (Hos­pi­tal Ad­min­is­tra­tion); As­sis­tant Man­ag­er (Hos­pi­tal Ad­min­is­tra­tion); Man­ag­er (Hu­man Re­sources.)

The post of Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer was not among the po­si­tions ad­ver­tised.

The dead­line for ap­pli­ca­tions is April 6. On March 17, for­mer CEO Paula Chester-Cum­ber­batch was fired for not car­ry­ing out the SWRHA's di­rec­tive to is­sue let­ters of sus­pen­sion to five doc­tors and nurs­es who were on du­ty when moth­er of three, Chrys­tal Boodoo-Ram­sumair, died at the hos­pi­tal on March 4.

Act­ing Med­ical Di­rec­tor Dr Anand Cha­toor­goon, who dis­agreed with the ac­tion of the board and Min­is­ter of Health Therese Bap­tiste-Cor­nelis, has been told that his con­tract which comes to an end on March 31 will not be ex­tend­ed. Asked if he will be ap­ply­ing for the po­si­tion of Med­ical Di­rec­tor, Cha­toor­goon gave an em­phat­ic "no." Oth­er se­nior doc­tors, who spoke on the ba­sis of anonymi­ty, said they did not want the job.
