Over 600 students will benefit from the "Uniquely Worthy-Discover the Uniqueness within You-th" motivational programme, which starts tomorrow at the Rovanel's Beach Resort, Tobago. The programme, which is sponsored by United Way Trinidad and Tobago and bpTT and has been approved by the Ministry of Education, will also have two legs in Trinidad at Paria Suites, San Fernando, on April 2 and Cascadia Hotel one week later. The target audience is secondary school students between 14 and 17 years of age.
The workshops will be facilitated by inspirational speaker Don la Foucade with Anthony Watkins as the principal consultant. According to La Foucade, the programme will deal with three areas which affect young people-self-esteem, peer pressure and purpose. It will be interactive to allow the youths to express themselves verbally while learning valuable lessons about themselves and their peers. Uniquely Worthy is aimed at stemming the moral decay that is attacking today's youth.
La Foucade noted the premise that when good men did nothing, evil prevailed, was the basis for the contribution Uniquely Worthy was making. "Even though 600 students may seem a small number, there is no excuse to not do anything. If one life can be changed for the better and the example of others assisting others is seen and becomes learning for our youth, Uniquely Worthy 2011 would have been a success, for one cannot place a monetary value on a life positively changed," said La Foucade. "Our focus over the years has been on the issues of family life, youth and education.
"Many programmes are centered around 'youth at risk' with little attention being paid to the youth within our educational system who struggle to find their special place in society and in the world generally," he added.
Pamela Francis, CEO of United Way Trinidad and Tobago, said her organisation was extremely grateful to bpTT for joining in making the experience possible for another 600 students in Trinidad and Tobago.
