Injured British citizen moved to private ward
Injured British national Shamshoum Afif has been moved to a private ward at San Fernando General Hospital. Afif, a resident of Brinsworth, South Yorkshire, was struck by a Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) bus while crossing Chancery Lane, San Fernando, on Wednesday afternoon. Checks at the hospital yesterday revealed that the vacationing British national had been moved from Ward Three, where he was being treated after the accident, to a private ward. Medical Director Dr Anand Chatoorgoon confirmed that Afif had been moved “for privacy reasons.” He said the UK resident was being “bombarded” by people seeking to visit him and a request was made to have him moved to a private area to shield him.
Chatoorgoon would not say who made the request. Afif is listed in stable condition. A police investigation into the accident in which Afif was injured is ongoing. The PTSC is conducting its own probe. Yesterday, PTSC officials said investigators were yet to receive information from the San Fernando Police about the accident. Afif was hit by the PTSC bus around 3 pm on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said Afif disembarked from a bus near the hospital entrance on Chancery Lane and attempted to cross the street. Another PTSC bus, which was behind the bus Afif alighted from, overtook on the right and struck him.
