He and two oth­er vil­lagers were at Ku­mar Sook­nanan's bar on Saint Marie Em­manuel Road, a few hous­es from Ma­haraj.Ram­per­sad said the vil­lage was peace­ful but what took place "was now a ter­ri­ble thing."Sook­nanan said it was the first time such an in­ci­dent oc­curred and the vil­lage was shocked.The men said Ma­haraj was a "de­cent" child "from small" and "she is the bright­est girl in this vil­lage."Ma­haraj is a stu­dent of North East­ern Col­lege.A San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal of­fi­cial con­firmed she was brought in for treat­ment. He re­fused to di­vulge her con­di­tion.
