Venezuela Ambassador to T&T, Maria Eugenia Marcano Casado, has confirmed that 201 Latin American citizens residing in earthquake and tsunami affected Japan were safely flown to Venezuela last Thursday.The citizens are from Nicaragua, Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela.Casado made the revelation while addressing an eco-conference hosted by the Venezuelan Embassy, Port-of-Spain on Friday.The event highlighted Venezuela and T&T's bio diversity.
Casado said it was high time both countries focus on the importance of the environment, which is being attacked by the hands of man for sustainable development for its people.The decision to bring the nationals to Venezuela, Casado said, was taken by its President, Hugo Chavez based on discussions he had with government officials from the four other countries following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11.She said it was all about "standing in solidarity."Among the 201 citizens were 50 Venezuelans.
