The pair was represented by attorney Fareed Ali. Ali asked the court to note that his clients were claiming they were beaten by police officers while in custody. Callistas and Deuteronomy arrived at the court at 1.20 pm and were then carried to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for a medical examination. They were then brought back to the court at 3.20 pm to appear before the magistrate. They charges were laid indictably and they were remanded into custody. The matter was transferred to the Sangre Grande Magistrates' Court where the two are due to appear again on Tuesday.
