But how Daniel drowned remained another mystery. Saying he visited the crime scene, Alexandrov described the river in which the boy was found as more of a "creek." "It's hard to ever imagine that somebody could ever drown in that," Alexandrov said. On February 18, Daniel left his home at Bedeau Street, Gasparillo, to go to a nearby parlour. He never returned. His body, which already bore signs of decomposition, was found two days later in what was described as a flood-swollen river at Tarouba, San Fernando. The first autopsy was conducted by Dr Eastlyn McDonald-Borris at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, during which forensic pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov assisted. Their finding was that drowning was the cause of death. A second autopsy, performed by Dr Hubert Daisley, at the San Fernando General Hospital, concluded Daniel was strangled. The third post mortem, conducted by US pathologist Professor James Gill, revealed homicidal asphyxia as the cause of death.
