Entertainer Rachel Price yesterday told the court a different story of the events that led to a charge of assault against her daughter's teacher.Police prosecutor Azad Ali asked Magistrate Lucina Cardenas-Ragoonanan in the Port-of-Spain Fourth (A) Magistrates' Court for an adjournment after Price, in her defence, gave her side of the story.Price was questioned by her attorney Om Lalla about the incident that allegedly took place at Bishop's Anstey High School, Port-of-Spain, in November, last year.
Contrary to what the victim in the case, Michelle Campbell, had testified earlier, Price said she neither used obscene language, nor did she tear the pink disciplinary slip, used by the school, into eight pieces."I tore the slip into two pieces and handed it to her," Price said.In her testimony, Campbell claimed that Price took the torn slip and shoved it down her blouse, which led to the charge of assault by beating.
Price told the court that Campbell maintained a loud tone, sarcastic and aggressive throughout the incident. She maintained throughout questioning that she never lost her temper, although she was embarrassed by the incident. Price also described herself as an active parent in the school, saying she helped organise many of the school's fund-raising events. Under questioning, Price told the court that her daughter, a Form Five student, never had any major disciplinary problems at the school, before the incident with Campbell.The case was adjourned to next Friday.
