More than $1.2 mil­lion worth of mar­i­jua­na was de­stroyed in Ch­aguara­mas yes­ter­day dur­ing a joint op­er­a­tion be­tween se­cu­ri­ty per­son­nel of the Ch­aguara­mas De­vel­op­ment Au­thor­i­ty (CDA) and the Or­gan­ised Crime, Nar­cotics and Firearms Bu­reau (OC­NFB).There were no ar­rests. Of­fi­cers, how­ev­er, said in­ves­ti­ga­tions were con­tin­u­ing.CDA per­son­nel said it was as a re­sult of on-go­ing in­tel­li­gence that es­tate and po­lice of­fi­cers went in­to an area on Guave Road, off Tuck­er Val­ley Road, and found hun­dreds of ful­ly-grown mar­i­jua­na trees and seedlings.Among those on the ex­er­cise were CDA of­fi­cers Sama­roo, Dol­land. Dowlat and Jee­tooah, ac­com­pa­nied by Cpl Dar­ren Bap­tiste and oth­ers from the OC­NFB.

The ex­er­cise be­gan at about 8 am and end­ed short­ly af­ter noon. The of­fi­cers said al­though there were no ar­rests they were fol­low­ing on cer­tain leads.Re­spond­ing to yes­ter­day's find, for­mer po­lice com­mis­sion­er, Ever­ald Snag­gs, now head of se­cu­ri­ty of CDA, said his of­fi­cers were mov­ing to keep a safer en­vi­ron­ment in the west­ern penin­su­lar.He said pa­trols in Ch­aguara­mas had been beefed up and would con­tin­ue.Snag­gs al­so com­mend­ed the of­fi­cers in­volved in yes­ter­day's op­er­a­tion.
