Criminologist Professor Ramesh Deosaran is to take the oath as member and chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) this afternoon. It will be administered by acting President Timothy Hamel-Smith, during a simple ceremony at Knowsley, Queen's Park West.
Deosaran's appointment comes seven days after the appointment of former chairman of the PSC Nizam Mohammed was revoked. Mohammed was fired eight months after assuming the position, after publicly stating that he was committed to work to address the ethnic imbalance in the hierarchy of the Police Service. Other members of the PSC are Jacqueline Cheessman, Martin George and Kenneth Parker.
