Security for the Prime Minister's official residence and the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann's, is provided by Executive Security Services (ESS), plus Defence Force and Special Branch officers, Minister Colin Partap has said.Partap gave the information in reply to Opposition questions in the Senate yesterday. He said the post of ESS director of security was vacant.Day-to-day management was provided by ESS operations director Anthony Snaggs, he added.
Partap said Snaggs did not recommend removal of the security cameras at the OPM and Diplomatic Centre. He said there had been strengthening of security measures at both locations.Ahead of Partap's reply, leader of Government Senate business, Subhas Panday, protested that the replies to that question bordered on violating Standing Orders 17 and 17 (B).PNM Senator Fitzgerald Hinds, who had posed the questions, said the Government's position on the issue cast aspersions on the Senate President who was supposed to vet and approve or disapprove all questions on the agenda.
