Hindus will observe the birthday of Lord Hanuman on Sunday at temples, mandirs and other places of worship as they join their counterparts the world over for this spiritual occasion. The observance follows the annual observance of Nau Raatri, nine days of devotion to the feminine aspect of the godhead, and Ram Nowni, the observance of Lord Rama's Avatar on earth. It also will coincide with the Christian observance of Palm Sunday. Among the places of worship is the Edinburgh Hindu Temple, Chaguanas, where celebrations will take place from 8 am to 10 am.
Devotees are asked to wear red clothing, the chosen colour of Lord Hanuman, as it represents victory. Special sacrificial offerings will be offered to Lord Hanuman, along with prayers for continued harmonious and peaceful co-existence. Pundit Ramesh Tiwari will conduct the service and deliver a sermon. Lord Hanuman defended the honour of Shri Rama and defeated the evil King Ravana in order to preserve the consciousness of humanity.
Sometimes referred to as the Monkey God, Hanuman is considered the embodiment of public service.
