Employees of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) are demanding that Minister of Public Utilities Emmanuel George bring a wage proposal to the bargaining table. The Oilfields Workers' Trade Union (OWTU) held a protest on Friday outside of the Ministry of Public Utilities, Tragarete Road, Woodbrook. OWTU president Ancil Roget said wage negotiations between the union and utility company had failed to start as the minister had not yet given a wage proposal to T&TEC's management.Roget said negotiations were for the period 2009 to 2011.He warned the OWTU would not accept a five per cent wage increase for T&TEC employees. He said T&TEC workers provided an essential service to maintaining industry and domestic production in T&T and their happiness was "critical to the economy of the country."
