May­or of Ch­agua­nas Or­lan­do Nages­sar has em­barked on an en­vi­ron­men­tal plan to beau­ti­fy the bor­ough. Nages­sar in­tends to ac­com­plish his mis­sion with the help of sev­er­al in­ter­est groups and ser­vice clubs, busi­ness or­gan­i­sa­tions, sport­ing and cul­tur­al groups.The may­or will seek in­put from the var­i­ous stake­hold­ers through a con­sul­ta­tive pro­gramme. "This process will en­tail work­ing with these or­gan­i­sa­tions to take own­er­ship of the sev­er­al recre­ation grounds, sport­ing fa­cil­i­ties and oth­er pub­lic places to main­tain them so that they would have in­puts in the over­all man­age­ment," Nages­sar said in an in­ter­view. "For in­stance, we will work with the sport­ing clubs by way of as­sist­ing them fi­nan­cial­ly and oth­er­wise to main­tain their grounds for crick­et, foot­ball and ath­let­ics. They will have to look at their up­keep, so the coun­cil would fo­cus on oth­er se­ri­ous is­sues fac­ing the peo­ple," he said.

"We have had a few pi­lot projects in this area of en­deav­our, and they have proven work­able," he said.

Nages­sar al­so spoke of the ur­gent need to get busi­ness hous­es and ser­vice clubs to adopt "a piece of wall and in­sert mu­rals and paint­ings re­flect­ing the so­cial, cul­tur­al and sport­ing strengths and con­tri­bu­tions of the many peo­ple in the area." He said the bor­ough was fo­cus­ing on a strin­gent, en­vi­ron­men­tal­ly-friend­ly pro­gramme. Pri­ma­ry and sec­ondary schools will al­so be en­list­ed in the ini­tia­tive. "Whilst it is an en­vi­ron­men­tal project, it will al­so bring out the cre­ative and la­tent tal­ents of our young peo­ple," he said.

He said his re­cent vis­it to the May­or of the City of Fort Laud­erdale has al­ready be­gun to bear fruit.

"The City of Fort Laud­erdale is as­sist­ing us in en­vi­ron­men­tal waste and this pro­gramme has al­ready touched some 23 schools in the area," he said. A crick­et team from the bor­ough will vis­it Fort Laud­erdale to play sev­er­al match­es with T&T and Caribbean na­tion­als there, he said. "We have em­barked on a new thrust in lo­cal gov­ern­ment process­es by work­ing with the peo­ple, and this will au­gur a new and bond­ed re­la­tion­ship be­tween the gov­er­nors and the gov­erned. We in­tend to make the Bor­ough of Ch­agua­nas a mod­el area as we have be­come proac­tive for the even­tu­al de­c­la­ra­tion of the City of Ch­agua­nas," he said.
