A 50-year-old pundit from Rousillac, South Trinidad, who reportedly preyed on young women who came to him for counselling, has been charged with 29 counts of sexual offences. He is expected to appear before a Point Fortin magistrate today to answer the charges, which allegedly occurred between 2008 and 2010 at his temple. Following months of investigations, the pundit was arrested at his temple yesterday by a team of officers, led by ASP Rajkumar PC Badree and PC Ablacksingh, of the Point Fortin Police Station.
One of the charges was having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old from southeast Trinidad in 2008. Police investigators said their probe revealed the pundit allegedly brought young women, who had domestic and other problems into his temple for counselling. While there he allegedly persuaded them to take off their clothes as part of the religious ritual. After removing their clothing, he allegedly would then have sexual intercourse with them.
