Trinidad and Tobago yesterday joined with the rest of the world in mourning the death of Shri Sathya Sai Baba who passed away at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh. His body was taken to his Prashanti Nilayam in Puttaparthi where last rites will be performed on Wednesday. Several Sai Baba places of worship will hold all night vigils, chant bhajans and read from the major Hindu scriptures, and from his own works in memory of his death.
Winston Dookeran, Minister of Finance, and leader of the Congress of the People(COP), said Sai Baba never set foot on T&T soil, yet the impact of his teaching, philosophy and humanitarian work remain a challenge for all of us to emulate. Dookeran noted that the religious leader had thousands of followers and disciples across Trinidad and Tobago and "we all share in their hour of grief, sorrow and bereavement as he was a great leader in the realms of spirituality and benevolence.
