In an ecstatic performance that was dripping with sensuality, headline act Trey Songz tantalised screaming female fans on "World Music Night" of the Tobago Jazz Experience at Pigeon Point, Heritage Park, on Thursday night.Songz mesmerised his audience from his first delivery until he wrapped up with Bottoms Up sometime after 1 am yesterday. Not even the rain, which began around midnight and fell intermittently during his set, could put a damper on the action. His adoring, youthful fans stood their ground dancing and singing enthusiastically along with him.
Songz opened with I Need a Girl and there was no shortage of volunteers. Before the night ended he had his security take one backstage after he draped his soaking wet white vest around her and kissed and caressed her face while she sat on the stage. She, uninhibited, returned the love. Clad in body-hugging mini dress and heels, the young woman had climbed over the security fence in front the stage on Songz' urging after he selected her from a bevy of screaming hopefuls, for the presentation.
The excitement never waned as Songz delivered Can't Help but Wait, Missing You, Say Aah, Already Taken, Panty Droppa, Successful, Love Faces and Neighbours Know My Name, among others.Acknowledging that this was his first time in T&T he said: "This is an experience I will never forget."Like others before him, including Sting and Rod Stewart, he too confessed that T&T had such "beautiful people" who "have been so kind to me."
Songz kept a rapport with his audience while his music focused on issues of love, sex and relationships. "You got to be smart to hold a man down," he advised, before launching into Already Taken. At times he teased and pretended to take off his clothes to the delight of the audience. His Trini-style gyrating to Love Faces aroused peals of screams. He disrobed gradually on stage and when he dropped Panty Droppa one wondered what next he was going to take off, but a bare chest and underpants peeping out his shorts was the limit."Tobago, I love you and thank you, without you there will be no me," Songz said as his performance ended.
