Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says while everybody in T&T wants something from her People's Partnership Government, her role is to ensure there is fairness, equity and justice in the country. She was speaking during an interview with reporters at the Cascadia Hotel, Cascade, minutes after being jeered by protesting farmers outside the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on George Street, Port-of-Spain, yesterday. "I am not sure that I attempted (to talk with them) I greeted them," she said when questioned about the incident earlier.
She quickly added that the matter "can only be resolved in the interest of all...There is a meeting tomorrow and I don't want to compromise or prejudice those discussions." Food Production Minister Vasant Bharath and Housing and the Environment Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal will be holding a second round of talks with the farmers today. Asked to comment on the matter, the PM told reporters: "Like with everything else there are challenges but obstacles are not impossible to overcome. "We must stay focused on the larger picture...There would be sectoral interest, but as prime minister, I have to look at the larger good," she said. "It's like a family, you have several children and each has a different interest."Everybody wants something, and for me, my job is to ensure there is fairness, there is equity and there is justice...That is what I try to do," she said.
