Mervyn Chin, of Kee-Chanona Ltd, has been elected president of the Trinidad and Tobago Contractors Association (T&TCA). He takes over from outgoing president Mikey Joseph of Structural and Mechanical Agencies Ltd. Chin, who was elected president during the association's 42nd annual general meeting recently, had served as a vice president on the previous board.
A release from the association said under his leadership, T&TCA would work to convince the Government to communicate its schedule for the settlement of outstanding payments to contractors and to rethink its development strategy for a greater balance between building and civil works developments.
The statement said the association recognised there was too great a focus on infrastructure works at the expense of building projects which were now required to stimulate the economy and satisfy the need for employment. "Since 2009, this sector has been slowly grinding to a halt and is now in dire need of an injection of projects to stimulate activities," the release added.
