Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner insisted yesterday he "remains in the dark" about many matters affecting state-owned Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL). Warner said he was unaware of the reported signing between CAL chairman George Nicholas and Air Jamaica recently. "No, I was not privy to that, as so many other things in CAL. Just like you, I am in the dark and I make no apologies for saying so," Warner said in response to questions at yesterday's news conference at his London Street, Port-of-Spain, office.
The CAL issue was expected to be discussed during yesterday's Cabinet.
Warner confirmed that he had asked Attorney General Anand Ramlogan to disband the airline's board.
"I did do that in a private e-mail (to him), which I see is now in the public domain," he added. Warner said his request was in keeping with what he said about the CAL board since November. He added that his position on CAL was "consistent with what the permanent secretary said in her report to the Prime Minister some weeks ago... it is consistent with what the Minister of Finance said to the Prime Minister some weeks ago." Warner stressed: "So if there is one common thread is that the (CAL) board must go." Warner said Ramlogan has not as yet responded to his request.
