Cruise tour operator/businesswoman Vicky Boodram Ali-Singh and her husband Ravi Ali-Singh remained in police custody yesterday despite being granted $9 billion bail by a Justice of the Peace. The duo, who operate Boodram Travel Tours and Ship Ahoy Cruises, were held by police last Wednesday. Police sources say the two have been charged with multiple fraud charges for allegedly accepting monies from potential travellers under false pretenses.
They have been charged with giving fradulent documents to the banks. They were granted bail by a JP yesterday. The document provided to secure the bail for the couple was deemed to be fraudulent by the JP, television stations reported in their newscasts last night. This meant the pair will remain in police custody until bail can be secured. Once bail is secured, Boodram Ali-Singh, a former radio announcer and child star, will have to report to a police station twice a week and their travel documents will be seized.
The two will appear before a magistrate tomorrow.
