Police are probing whether the bullet that killed restaurant owner Dexter Braithwaite at his Tarouba home yesterday morning was intended for a policeman.Describing Braithwaite as a decent man, police said they had no motive for his killing. However, they are investigating whether the killers' target was really a police officer. They believe the killers might have mixed up the directions and mistakenly went to Braithwaite's home.
Braithwaite, 42, was shot twice in the head around 2 am while he slept on his bed with his wife, Rajdaye Mahabir, at their home on Bernard Julien Drive, Tarouba.Braithwaite's children, ages between 17 and five, were asleep in another room.Police said two men stood outside the house, pushed their guns through a space where two louvres panes were missing and opened fire.Braithwaite died on the spot while his wife was not injured.Investigators have interviewed the policeman as they attempt to determine whether a hit had been taken out on his life. There were no arrests up to late yesterday.
