A 38-year-old man of Penal was up to late yesterday warded in critical condition at hospital, after he was chopped on his neck and thrown out of his vehicle. Police said Ramdath Gadraj, of Scott Road, was plying his car for hire in the community on Monday night. A report said he picked up a man near Penal Police Station. The man, police said, asked to be taken to Penal Rock Road. Police said as the car reached King Street, the man asked Gadraj to stop for another man.
Moments later, the first man who had entered the car pulled out a string which was tied into a noose.
The man placed it around Gadraj's neck and attempted to strangle him. After that failed, the the other man whipped out a small cutlass and chopped Gadraj on his neck. Gadraj stopped the car, after which he was thrown out into the road where he remained until yesterday morning. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.
