A Barataria teenager was yesterday freed of six charges in connection with the robbery and beating of a French couple.Magistrate Cheron Raphael dismissed the charges against Stephen Awong, 19, of Upper Seventh Street, Malik, in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates Court, after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office stated it could offer no evidence in the case.
The couple, Jacqueline and Vladimir Chonik, was allegedly attacked while vacationing at their daughter's Norman Terrace, Mt Anne Drive, Second Avenue, Cascade, home on February 2, and robbed of $3,000, 300 euros and a quantity of jewelry.Awong was later arrested and charged with robbery with violence, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition to endanger life and malicious damage.He was represented by attorney Larry Williams.
