An eight-year-old girl, caught in the mid­dle of a fight be­tween her moth­er and a male rel­a­tive, was stabbed sev­er­al times about the body yes­ter­day.Alea Flem­ming, a stu­dent of San Fer­nan­do Girls' An­gli­can School, of Quar­ry Road, Morne Di­a­blo, was list­ed in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion at San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal up to late yes­ter­day.The in­ci­dent hap­pened around 8.30 am at the child's home.

Re­ports said her moth­er, Denise Flem­ming, was be­ing beat­en by a 34-year-old male rel­a­tive, dur­ing a heat­ed ar­gu­ment about some tele­phone cards which could not be found.Po­lice said Denise es­caped from the man and fled in­side a room, leav­ing her daugh­ter be­hind.The man re­port­ed­ly went in­to the kitchen, where he grabbed a knife and dealt the child sev­er­al stabs about her fore­head, neck and hand. It is re­port­ed that the man walked in­to the sta­tion yes­ter­day evening and gave him­self up.Con­sta­ble Rock is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
