The Opposition PNM Youth League says San Fernando East MP Patrick Manning was suspended with "an unprecedented level of procedural impropriety, indecency and dishonour." Manning was referred to the Committee of Privileges for statements he made in Parliament last November about the cost and financing of the private home of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar near Bryan's Gate, Philippine. By a vote of 25 to 9, Manning was suspended from the service of the Parliament on Monday, until the end of the current session.
The Youth League said the report submitted by the committee contained "errors, inconsistencies and blatant omissions." The group said the suspension was "a clear abuse of the (Government's) majority (in Parliament)."
The Youth League said the abuse was "an infringement of the rule of law as it relates to the notion of natural justice and procedural fairness."
