Limers at Caura River celebrating the Indian Arrival Day holiday on Monday got a rude awakening after 24 drivers were arrested by police for driving while over the legal alcohol limit.The exercise, conducted by Senior Supt Stephen Ramsubhag, ASPs Neville Sankar and Francis Joseph, and Cpl Leo Simon, of Traffic Branch, was part of Northern Division's continued efforts to curb road carnage caused by drunken driving.The drivers all pleaded guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Andrew Stroude in the Tunapuna Magistrates' Court yesterday.They were ordered to pay a total of $77,000 in fines, ranging between $2,500 and $5,000, depending on how much over the legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol for every 100 millilitres of breath they were.Officers also issued several tickets for traffic offences and arrested one woman for obstructing police in their breathalyser exercise and for resisting arrest.
