Opposition Leader Keith Rowley has called on the Integrity Commission to secure all NP documents in its probe of the NP contract and the Prime Minister's conduct regarding her stay at a Tunapuna house.
Rowley issued a letter to the commission yesterday, after Attorney General Anand Ramlogan's report on the NP tender. Rowley accused Ramlogan of "covering up" in the NP issue. He reiterated the Opposition's call for the commission to probe the NP transport contract issue over 2010-2011.
Noting that the NP contract and the Prime Minister's conduct in the house issue were before the commission, Rowley said the AG recently sought legal opinions on the matter and presented them along with his own comments to the commission. "The Attorney General has in this context also publicly ridiculed and dismissed the residency matter which is before your independent commission for full examination," he said. Noting the train of events in the NP issue, Rowley said the AG had appointed himself "Chief Exonerator."
"The Attorney General has reported on the disappearance of NP's sensitive files pertinent to the matter at hand...in the face of clear-cut attempts at bid-rigging at NP, the Attorney General has intervened in an attempt to disconnect the political directorate and the elements of the board of NP from being identified to be held accountable for any possible misconduct," he said.
"It is the Opposition's view that the action of the Attorney General is a blatant attempt to effect an official cover-up at NP. "He is attempting to use the authority of his office to sway public opinion from the real issue at NP for the protection of person or persons who should be made to account for their actions and who should quite properly be removed from conducting the State's business at NP.
