The murder rate jumped to 168 yesterday after the killing of a 38-year-old man at Joseph Lane, Malabar. Sheldon Thompson, a PH driver, died at the Arima Health Facility after he was shot several times about the body by two men. A police report said Thompson was sitting in his car near his house at Joseph Lane around 9.30 pm Sunday when two masked men approached his vehicle.
Police said both men were armed and fired shots in the victim's direction. Residents who heard the loud explosions called the police. A team of officers responded and found Thompson slumped in the driver's seat of his car. He was rushed to the Arima Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Homicide officers are continuing investigations. The murder toll stood at 229 at this time last year.
